Okay there's a difference to having Men being trampled over but if a bloke so loves a female that he's willing to sacrifice himself for her that's his own prerogative.

Where'd she say that?
[–]dragonsandgoblins 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Where does it imply at all that she felt he was obliged to, or that anyone felt he was obliged to?
It seems to be like it describes the events that happened with respect to this man's sacrifice.

Covered her with his 6ft 5 frame. Try and imagine the reverse and see if that was meant for a man.

Gender specific writing in one sentence does not equate to a gender specific or biased article.
It's shitty imagery; but it that isn't evidence of sexism. The article doesn't suggest it's what all men should have done, or what all women should expect men to do or anything like that.
Saying this article is an example of sexism is ludicrous, pointless whining. There is not necessarily a deeper meaning to everything, we go down this road and we end up like people who are very pissed at the words "mankind" and "history" because they contain syllables that compose words associated with masculinity.

It's shitty imagery
I disagree. I think it was purposeful and suggested as part of protection.

This isn't about the words. It's about how we describe an act.
I could agrree that we are reaching and that there are better examples, but its not like each author will employ a syllogism when spreading ideas.

Shitty doesn't mean accidental, he was a big guy, the writer used that to plant the idea of this big guy shielding his girlfriend in a visual way. A guy so big would completely cover her.
Again I think it was intended to convey a certain image, but I think the event was described pretty reasonably considering the word count of that little piece.

Ohhh..... That makes more sense, you probably should have mentioned that earlier.

6ft 5in frame... What the purpose of that imagery? Seriously...
He is big but that doesn't matter at all.
[–]lilbigmac -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
probably filler to meet a word quota
[–]fondueguy -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It sounded to me like the "big guy" was acting like a protector as is the honnorable thing... I may be wrong though.

It could've been, but I know from working for a newspaper some people in the media aren't above pointless modifiers to meet the editor's minimum
