Anti-male Facebook meme. "Homophobia: the fear that gay men will treat you the way you treat women"

What I dislike about this is the implication that all men treat women poorly.

Like, homophobia is the fear that gay men will treat you the way that all men supposedly treat women. It implies that even non-homophobes treat women poorly.

Something tells me there's a big overlap with the group of homophobes and misogynists, and I think it is possible that homophobic misogynists are worried that gay men will treat them the same way they treat women, so that part of the meme isn't that bad.

The truth is that men aren't responsible for homophobia, homophobes are.

True. Especially the part about being taught sexist attitudes by women; it certainly isn't only the fault of men.

But the kind of homophobe who freaks out about being hit on by a gay man is often a douchebag who treats women poorly. It's exactly the reason why my roommate is ever so slightly homophobic (he's all for gay rights, and politically isn't homophobic in the slightest, but still gets squicked out by them personally--he also thinks all men want to have sex with almost all women all the time, just because he does). How they get to that fear is a complicated story, but that's a common fear.

The only thing I got out of reading that Facebook meme is "like the object of their sexual desire" which isn't offensive toward men, as men generally do sexually desire women (I would hope).

I treat women very well, so by this logic homophobes are fair and pleasant towards gay men.

It's a tweet. Of course it's not going to describe the relationship between misogyny and homophobia in less than 140 characters. They went for maximum effect, so of course the result is a not-entirely-true epigram.

It's still thought-provoking, though, in the sense that certain men may be fully aware of their power over women and attempt to sexually exploit them for it, while simultaneously feeling discomfort at the idea of another man treating them the same way.

I'm no expert on this or anything, though. That's just the message I assumed they were trying to send.
