Flipping back and forth between MRA blogs and threads and Feminist blogs and threads, I came to a realization. Many of the insidious aspects of radical feminism are starting to take a root in various MRA factions as well. While striking back in retaliation of obvious misandry and marginalization of mens rights may be temporarily satisfying, it is doing more to harm awareness for mens issues and rights than good.

Basically, we need positive awareness of mens issues advocacy, not negative retaliatory reposts of, "Look what some random rad-fem or white-knight said and/or posted." It does us no good. If we are to really bring mens issues into the mainstream awareness, then we need to disregard those that attack us, and be a louder voice of equality and shared responsibility. We need to fight back with reason and compassion, not anger and vitriol.

When confronted with advertisements or campaigns that generalize men in a negative way, we need to be louder with the truth. We need to make it known that the majority of men are good and fair people. We need to actively petition such companies and organizations to stop misrepresenting men in such ways, and do it in a way that does not detract from the underlying issue. When we see skewed statistical representations that misrepresent the reality of a situation, we need to counter with more detailed facts that show why these statistics are not accurate in representing aspects of culture or society.

While posting or reposting articles and blogs about mens rights being denied may bring awareness to a few dozen or possibly a few hundred people, it's not going to solve any of these problems. We are not going to solve anything by circle jerking on Reddit. Voicing concern over unfair legislation or issues being ignored is fine, but we need to do more than that if anything is ever going to be accomplished.

Awareness - Education - Action

Awareness:

We need to actively make those we know and those we communicate with aware of the numerous issues that men deal with and that lack general awareness. Health issues, domestic violence, parental rights, marriage rights, Sexual abuse, genital mutilation, reproductive rights, etc... We need to make the the public aware to these issues. We need to force them to realize that these problems exist and that they need to be addressed instead of ignored.

Education:

We need to educate ourselves on as many legitimate issues where men are ignored or shown negatively. We need to do this with concrete evidence from reliable sources. We need to be able to share this information to educate others so our concerns can become public concerns. Information has to be reliable and vetted. It must be up to date. The best way to fight flawed statistics and reports used to marginalize mens issues is to stop it in its tracks with irrefutable facts and truth.

In the comments please take some time and do the following: Post information and links to organizations, institutions and agencies that actively help men with mens issues whether it be for legal advocates, abuse counseling, mens health campaigns, whatever. Be sure to include regional information too so those interested know where these organizations are located throughout the world

Action:

None of the previously mentioned tactics will accomplish anything unless they are followed with real world action. All the talking, organizing, anger and frustration won't amount to anything without advocacy and direct action outside of the Internet. Take the information and knowledge you have gained from awareness and education and seek out men in need of help with these issues. Point them to useful resources that can help them in their struggles. Let them know that, while they may be few, there are places where they can get help for their problems. If you do not know anyone in your life with these issues that needs your help, then become publicly active and look for campaigns to help with in your region. Contact your politicians, officials and other public figures to find out which ones may be sympathetic to mens rights and issues. If you cannot find one, then become one.

It will not be easy, but that is no excuse to do nothing. We are men, not victims. We need to stand up and fight for fairness and shared responsibility. We cannot do this from our computers alone. If we cannot find a group or campaign in our region with which to join, we need to be willing to step up and start our own. Be a leader of men, for men. If those in positions of influence won't give men and mens issues the recognition they deserve, then we need to do what men do. We need to stand up for ourselves, and make them give our issues due recognition. We need to make them take action as our representatives instead of paying us lip service in vain placation. All too often men are shamed as being too aggressive and assertive. Too combative and too quick to fight. These are also benefits, we need to use them. We need to be more aggressive and assertive. We need to fight for our rights to have our issues heard and addressed.

TL;DR MRA's? No more circle-jerks and complaining. We are men, so let's act like it and be active in our advocacy for mens rights. There's a difference between slacktivism and activism. Stop giving awareness and acknowledgement to antagonist sites and organizations by posting their attacks on men. We need to concern ourselves far less about those that will never help us, and far more with those that will join us.

EDIT: I would also like to see these ideas reflected in the Mod policy of the r/MensRights subreddit. This, however, is entirely up to them and not me. I just think it would be helpful to guide discussion towards more beneficial ends instead of the typical, "man-hater hates men so let's hate on the man-hater" posts.
