I think some of this may have something to do with evolution, the stress factor at least. if a specie is threatened, producing more females may be a way of insuring survival, since more females are needed than males to help populate (since it takes nine months for a new generation to exist).

As for the hormones and mutations, it's quiet obvious that our chemicals are biting us in the back. We already have evidence that certain pesticides cause birth defects, that chemicals in our meat might make us sick, why would it surprise us that it also has effect over what may be born?

There is no quick solution to this problem, but there is a solution.Buy and purchase food from your local farmers (and buy only what you need), eat organic as much as you can, and take care of yourself by visiting your doctor. It's especially important that women know what they're consuming, since it does affect their unborn fetus.

Here's a wikepedia article that cites some research done in Sarnia, Canada. Basically due to heavy pollution, stress and other factors, the birth rate for boys in that area dropped to 33% or 1 in 3. Of those boys, many were born with defects that would keep them from fully maturing or having children.

This also isn't just affecting male children or birth rates, the average male sperm count has been steadily dropping across the world over the past few decades.

A big men's health issue is the hazardous pesticides on foods which harms male fertility, and female fertility too.
