Ok... this is a bit bullshitty.

On principal I absolutely agree. Splitting hairs and not adapting to today's progress via two men on a birth certificate is shitty and should be rectified... but

"it's the child who suffers"? Really? REALLY?

My original birth certificate has been lost for some time and a replacement was issued from the hospital's copy. Apparently my mother (only surviving parent) isn't my mother as they made a typo on her name. We have tried to get this remedied but apparently "they can't change it" no matter what.

I have been half tempted to sue the hospital for allowing a crazy woman to kidnap me and raise me as her own and to find my real mother.

That being said... it has had 0 outside effect on my life.

The couple should take 3 steps.

1, Take the "legal birth certificate".
2, Have a "real birth certificate" designed, printed up, notarized and officiated with both their names.
3, Have a living will drawn up that "rearranges" any and all issues that not having "two men on the legal" birth certificate would cause.

Yes I am aware this is "enabling the system" and I am fine with them pushing it to the SCOTUS or to the media or wherever they need to make progress...

...but the child suffering because of out-dated bureaucracy? There isn't a contract or lawyer that can't "fix" it so it works like everyone else.

An accurate birth certificate is uniformly recognized and often required in legal contexts, including determining the parents' and child's right to make medical decisions for other family members; determining custody, care and support of the child in the event of a separation or divorce between the parents; obtaining a social security card for the child; obtaining social security survivor benefits for the child in the event of a parent's death; establishing a legal parent-child relationship for inheritance purposes in the event of a parent's death; claiming the adopted child as a dependent on the parents' respective insurance plans; registering the child for school; claiming the child as a dependent for purposes of federal income taxes; and obtaining a passport for the child and traveling internationally.

They list nothing there that cannot be achieved by 1 parent signing over shared custodial rights to another person while similtaniously working out the rest.

The distinction here is that they cannot get both names on a single document. All you need is one name to establish everything above, which they already have.

Principal for gay father rights? Fuck yeah Louisiana is being backward and stubborn.

"Children suffering"? Not because of the missing second name, not by a long shot.
