London has already see Riots from Financially secure middle class students over having to pay more for their education within the last two years, but i'll agree the police here are often far too heavy handed (when its not needed) and then show utter incompetance and apathy when its needed.

Many of the rioters are too young to be unemployed ( though i suppose they may have dropped out of the education system).

It's more about education and upbringing and the lack of a stable family.

These rioters are a mix of thugs who like violence, opportunists who want a free LCD TV, and poor young men who are fed up with being treated like shit and need to hit back at something, anything. Feminism is certainly a part of it as it has helped to marginalize young males, but it is mostly a class issue.

What angers me about all this is that it is the poor taking it out on the poor and the middle class. If these guys had any sense they would be burning down the parliament and the banks, not their own neighborhoods.

You might not realise it form the reporting but it's almost exclusively black people rioting (or mixed-race with one black parent). Literally every British city with a significant black population has now had riots.

The absence of fathers is far higher in such groups than with other ethnicities, so I really think that's the main factor here. Gangs take the place of fathers when they are not around and this is the inevitable end result.

No punishment. If I was a kid I might join in. Jobless don't care about the law.

I will say men are finding they are cooler as criminals than as wage earners. Only losers don't break the law.

I'd say it shows a shift in values. Not just in the rioters themselves but the idea of a nation that claps along. That's to say bullshit has grown legs and soundbites have replaced logic, toddler time is all the time.
