There are no gender expectations in that statement though, sure, he uses the words "man up" and "stop being a pussy." If that bothers you that much, well, you might want to re-evaluate your priorities.

Sometimes people don't even realize that they have become that guy. The bitch. The whiner. The nag. The person everyone else is starting to resent until its too late. OP is trying to do him a favor and trying to avoid having to cut this dead weight out of his social circle by giving him an opportunity to become a worthwhile friend to keep around.

SevenCubed gives the OP a reasonable way to state his desired outcome without any real gendered expectations beyond the relatively meaningless catchphrase that is "man up" and "stop being a pussy"

Man up and stop being a pussy are borderline neutral in regard to gender, since they both seek to acquire positive qualities associated with being a man and both can easily be applied to a man or a woman. If anything, "stop being a pussy" is possibly mysoginist. But if someone called me on it, I'd tell them to go shave their armpits and to change their tampon, because only the most extreme people would give a fuck about that.
