Putting aside for a second that Charlie has some serious drug addiction issues (and shouldn't be viewed as a role-model), this article touches on one aspect of his persona that I think touches a vibe with men: he is fiercely independent. In our deeply anti-male society, he doesn't answer to a boss or to a woman: he is free, in the true sense of the word.

The article only touches on his freedom from work, from the establishment and from political correctness; but I think it misses another point: Charlie is also free from women. It is no secret that he is into hookers (and his two "goddesses" are just glorified escort girls, in my opinion). While this is not a commendable life style, it gives him a freedom that most men could only dream of: he doesn't have to do what a woman tells him to do, jump through hoops and beg for sex - or live in fear of a devastating divorce while saying "yes dear" to every stupid purchase his fugly wife makes with his money. In a world where men who are "in relationships" are humiliated like never before, Charlie stands his ground..
