I think this is a well thought-out article, but it does excuse more extreme female violence as somehow being a reaction to men, or circumstances, and not a function of domination and struggle itself. Considering that most physical child abuse is perpetrated by women, and that women are more likely to use violence or the threat thereof to litigious ends (as the horrible reality TV teen-mom threatened numerous times), there is less and less difference between the violence men and women perpetrate.

Not only do men not have any social or legal backing legitimizing their extreme behaviors in inciting violence, but men are put at cross-purposes: assumed to already be violent, they must also be much more self-controlled than women. A woman can shout and kick and throw things and she is ignored as being "exasperated"; if a man did those same activities, he'd be a domestic terrorist, inciting fear and danger at every turn. Since women are more likely to use weapons, children, and the legal system to their advantage, is there really a qualitative difference between the threat of violence by either gender?
