After reading the article I completely agree. I am a philosophy major and emotion trumps logic in classrooms every day. I failed a class for writing a paper about anthropology and it's focus on ethnocentricity is at odds with it's focus on stopping FGM because to be non ethnocentric is mutually exclusive from applying ethical standards to other populations cultural traditions. Or in another class, a anthro at one of the most prestigious anthro dept in the US, we covered all kinds of cultural practices but it mainly glossed over things like cultural practices of slicing a penis in half but spent a entire week going on about FGM. This was a class of several hundred students and several guys, in a respectful way, asked about circumcision only to be yelled down by the women in the room and have the female professor shame the guys and say it's no big deal and then go back to preaching about the evils of a needle prick on a clit.

Disclaimer: I am not arguing for FGM, and was't then either, I was simply pointing out how the ideals of anthropology, namely not judging other cultures based on your cultural morals, is thrown out the minute a female get's emotional on a topic.
