• Yes. Despite the name, Amazon Mom is open to anyone who is responsible for caring for a baby or young child--“Amazon Primary Caregiver” just didn’t have the same ring to it. Kidding aside, we chose this name because we noticed moms in social communities (like our Amazon discussion boards) looking to connect and share information about products and problems with other moms. We wanted a name that would let these groups know that this program was created with their unique needs in mind.

Take a look around sometime without taking things for granted. There are still a very high amount of usage of the term 'mom' and all its derivatives when companies or organizations are trying to market or speak to a primary caregiver.

What is Jif's tagline? "Choosy moms choose Jif"

That's the most popular one that I can think of. But there are billboards, magazine ads, flyers, classes, support groups, etc, etc, all using the term 'mom' when they are attempting to speak to one parent.

Could you possibly imagine them doing the same type of thing, targeting a working professional in this day and age, and referring to them using only a masculine term? I certainly can't.

Women have successfully staked out their claim in both the parenting world and the professional world, and society has accepted this as such. Men have the professional world and that is their only acceptable place for most people, even in our modern 'enlightened' age.

I respect Amazon for noting that their promotion is not restricted to female parents only, but I am disappointed that they chose the term 'mom' because the only alternative example they give didn't have a nice 'ring' to it.

Ok they do mention dads... but still totally biased.
