Reading even further in that bill it's going even so far as to make exceptions for domestic violence shelters by allowing them to discriminate based on sex. That's some "equality" bill ... better term would be "Selective Equality Bill".

The condition is that— . (a) there is likely to be physical contact between a person (A) to whom the service is provided and another person (B), and . (b) B might reasonably object if A were not of the same sex as B.

That is just one of the conditions which would apply to single sex services (Schedule 3 / Part 6 http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200809/cmbills/085/09085_iw/09085_iw_en_22.htm).

In the explanation notes attached it says:

Examples

692.These exceptions would allow:

•a cervical cancer screening service to be provided to women only, as only women need the service;

•a “new fathers” support group to be provided by a health authority, as there is insufficient attendance by men at the new parents’ support group;

•a domestic violence support unit to be set up by a local authority for women only but there is no men-only unit because of insufficient demand; <-- ofc this is a blatent exception that is discriminatory in nature based on a prejudice alone. Something like this has no business being in a so called "Equality Bill"........

After reading the equality bill pamphlet (PDF http://www.equalities.gov.uk/PDF/GEO_A%20Fairer%20Future-%20The%20Equality%20Bill%20and%20other%20action%20to%20make%20equality%20a%20reality.pdf) it is becoming clear just how discriminatory that piece of legislation is. Not once , anywhere are any inequalities that affect men taken into account. Then again one cannot expect any different from a Minister for Women and Equality ....

The code makes clear that it will not be seen as an excuse if the motive of the gym staff is to help a woman or save her from injury.

Seems to harm men and women alike...

Last week it emerged that vegans would be protected, along with members of cults and "new religions" such as Scientology.

If that doesn't tell you it's a bullshit bit of legislation, I'm not sure what would.
