I can remember growing up with my mom telling me about her abusive EX, and how the local cops pretty much told her to deal with it. There are some very sad stories, and I've always been big on helping women escape domestic violence situations because of this.
Now I don't think it was until a couple years ago (I'm 22) that I even knew domestic violence was a big issue for guys. Yes I knew it happened, but I had no idea that the numbers were just as high as those for men who beat their partners.
this really got to me after I found out my brothers ex was pretty abusive emotionally/physically to him. I would never have guessed. They always seemed pretty happy, and because my brother is such a mellow guy, he just never let on until after they broke up. Now granted he didn't need a shelter or a restraining order because she wasn't that bat shit insane, but had he have needed someone to turn to it wouldn't be very easy. We live states apart, and the law wouldn't have been on his side for a restraining order.
This sorta nonsense is a bunch of bullcrap. But really, I think the biggest problem is the lack of education. Most people do not understand how common this sort of abuse is. Nor do they realize that people who stay in abusive relationships don't do it because they are physically overpowered, they do so because they love too much, and they don't feel they can leave. But really I think this needs to be handled by men for men. People tend to be harsher towards people of their own gender, and men are no exception to that rule.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
