Yes, the word feminist is too often just a broad overgeneralized replacement word for women on this subreddit.

I have thought about this from time to time too, and the answer is tricky. Once in a while, I think an article shows up and feminism is not the culprit, or the article is about feminism's history since its early days (first wave), which i don't have any particular grudge with.

I have not seen something equating all western women being feminists, care to share a link?

You are right, that feminism is evolutionary and constantly changing. But if damage was dealt in the past, and it has not been repaired-whether they think the actions are wrong or not really doesn't matter much.

However, one person with a similar criticism as you pointed out that when MRAs say "feminism" it turns people off in the same way a lot of people react to hearing feminists scream "patriarchy" which I do think is true.

The influence of Feminism permeates modern society and culture. A person (man or woman) can vocally deny any allegiance to Fem, yet buy into a lot of the ideology, just by following the "mainstream" view of things. There's also the problem that the definition, history, and results of Feminism seems to depend on the frame of mind of the particular Feminist asked. This becomes a real problem, because it's impossible to evaluate a cultural movement when positive and negative aspects of it, and what it stands for, can be affirmed or denied at will. It is very difficult to find women (and men) not heavily influenced by feminism. and it's even harder to have a rational conversation about it when everything about it can shapeshift into numerous forms.

A common characteristics shared by most, but not all, feminists is a gynocentric world-view where the issues of women are privileged above those of men. Another common characteristic is the belief in the patriarchy, a social system in which men participate in power structures that are used to benefit themselves and oppress women.

Feminists start to fragment when it comes to beliefs on specific issues such as porn or even abortion. But most share these two characteristics, and these characteristics makes them inherently opposed to men's rights.

The fragmented nature of feminism leads to a the well-used evasive technique of "no true scotsman", where a feminist will try to distance herself from the hateful words and deeds of other feminists by claiming that no true feminist would say or do such a thing. But as long as a feminist subscribes to a gynocentric world-view and the patriarchy hypothesis, they may be held accountable for words or deeds that are motivated by those beliefs.

In all honesty feminist has replaced woman as the term used most. There are two good reasons for this. Feminist is a relatively gender neutral term. Second if every single post said women did this or women did that then it would devolve into true misogyny which is something this sub tries to avoid.

Also, The MRM isn't trying to make all women its enemy. There are many women in this movement that are vocal parts of helping address social issues.

Modern feminism has created issues within out society, that is also part of why feminist is used rather than women.

We tend to judge feminism on what it does and promotes rather than what individual followers of feminism say, which confuses at lot of individual feminists, who seem to think that its unfair to judge the movement by its actions.

I don't conflate women with feminists but feminist memes, like the lack of respect and empathy for men seem to have infected most women at least on some level.

All feminists are the same in that they attack men. Western woman are more feminist than other woman. There is no equality feminism or benign feminism.
