Fantastic article, especially this part:

My Aunt was Diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and my Grandparents took in my cousin and raised him as their own.

Happens quite a bit in the African American community. Sometimes it's because the custodial parent is unable to raise the child, in other cases it's because the parent is a child herself (look at the Paul Roberson High School case in Chicago).

It's just the nature of the beast....

Why is it if the father is unwilling or unable to "be a parent" -- which generally translates to paying child support -- he's thrown in jail? My point is if a drug user can't care for her kids, she should be thrown in jail.
