More terrible legislation from a government which hold's the UK all-time record for terrible legislation (both quantity and quality).

I mean, it does happen to break down as a gender issue (most of the time), but that's not why the law is the way that it is. If my wife hits me and throws cups at me (my ex did that) and I burn her to death while she's sleeping, I'll now be able to say manslaugher, whereas if she catches me shagging the family help she'll be a murderess if she freaks out and throws that cup hard enough at me!

Ministers say the law needs reform because it allows men to 'get away with murder'.

Harriet Harman, the minister for women, said: 'For centuries the law has allowed men to escape a murder charge in domestic homicide cases by blaming the victim.

'Ending the provocation defense in cases of "infidelity" is an important law change and will end the culture of excuses.'

Culture of excuses? If someone insults and beats their wife, they are horrible but why should we look the other way when they are murdered in cold blood? I'm not talking about self-defense when he's coming at you with a knife. I'm talking about plotting a murder over weeks to "free yourself" when a simple phone-call to the government would haul him away and leave you with all his possessions (without any proof whatsoever).

Provocation will be scrapped as a defense altogether, and be replaced with two partial defenses - that a person feared they could be the victim of serious violence, or could prove they had been 'seriously wronged' by the victim's actions.

If I walked in the door after my stressful 60-hour a week job and saw my wife banging the gardener, I'd consider that being seriously wronged. Would I kill the both of them? Probably not. Would it cross my mind? Most likely.

But the 'seriously wronged' clause is expected to make a special exemption for infidelity.

Whoops, how convenient. Now men can still be considered cold-blooded murderers without the possibility of explaining themselves! That will look great for the statistics section in future Women's Studies textbooks. This also says that infidelity is not that bad of a thing and men shouldn't be affected by it in any way. Only women are allowed to have their excuses and motives subjectively analyzed.

The idea that women cheat is okay because it was probably the man's fault. Either he was working too much or not working enough. Either he didn't appreciate her enough or kissed her ass so much that she wanted the "bad boy." How dare he even think of getting even or losing his cool when he sees the woman he's slaving away at a job he hates for fucking around behind his back!

This kind of story will not help statistics like this:

Strange that, it's called LAWFUL EXCUSE, not because it's legal, but because it's LAWFUL.
