Neonatal genital mutilation violates the victim's:

human right to a whole body
human right to be free from torture
human right to self determination
right to not be operated upon, or have parts of their body amputated, without compelling medical need

There are many other drawbacks, but I'm trying to answer your question in brief.

In North America, most victims of genital mutilation are male (99.99999%). Worldwide, circumcised males outnumber circumcised females by 6:1 or more (I can't remember the exact number). Both the USA and Canada recognize female's human rights as stated above by outlawing genital mutilation in all forms. Canada goes so far as to make it a crime for parents to take a daughter out of the country for the purpose of having her circumcised in a jurisdiction where it is legal; Canada will prosecute the parents upon returning to Canada. (reference: Section 268 subsection 4)

Some branches of Amnesty International view male circumcision as the sexual oppression of men.

Circumcision in North America is one of numerous issues facing men which, when taken together, form a pattern of neglect and abuse perpetrated against boys and men.

These are a few of the reasons why circumcision is a men's issue.

A child is not the property of the parents.

Parents cannot:

murder the child
abuse the child
use the child for (slave) labour
torture the child
neglect the child
etc.

Circumcision, incidentally, constitutes abuse, torture, and aggravated assault. As such, it should be condemned along side all the other forms of abuse we condemn. It boggles the mind how anyone can consider circumcision as anything but a horror.

If you want a better idea of what I'm talking about, view this video of a routine circumcision conducted without anesthetic by a certified medical practitioner in North America. This video is representative of a good circumcision with relatively few complications. Babies are known to projectile-vomit, black out from the pain, stop breathing, and worse.

Have you ever heard a baby cry like that before? Do you believe this operation is in the baby's best interest?
