More than that, it's friggin' stupid.

The assumptions behind the "decision" are inane. The reasoning behind it is that "7% of children live in single-parent households", but it assumes:

The single-parent isn't a father.
The child doesn't have a strong attachment to his/her father living outside the household.
The child doesn't have a strong attachment to a grandfather (or uncle or step-dad) who he can craft the card for instead.

and finally, 4. The child will clearly be traumatized crafting a card for a non-father, such as their second mum (mum's hypothetical lesbian lover, in the article).

I think it makes sense to celebrate families, both traditional and non-traditional. What better chance than this opportunity to celebrate the men in their lives, and/or have the opportunity to think about and celebrate what they have instead.

(Look, if the child really is going to be traumatised, this is the chance to detect this early and get him or her some help.)
