So to start this is from https://www.healthline.com/health/toxic-masculinity#traits
mental and physical toughness
aggression
stoicism, or not displaying emotion
heterosexism, or discrimination against people who aren’t heterosexual
self-sufficiency
emotional insensitivity
OK SO! Lets just jump into this.
Mental and physical toughness: Do I feel I am mentally and physically tough. Yes, yes I do. Not because I am a "MAN" but because of my life experience. I think I am mentally tough because I've gone through truly horrendous mental things that I wouldn't wish upon anyone else. Physically tough yes I am, my pain threshold is very very high again because I have done things TO MY SELF that I wouldn't wish upon anyone. I don't see how these are "identified as a toxic trait" am I this way all the time. No. Can I be mentally and physically soft and playful yes, yes I can.
Aggression: Am I an aggressive person, no not at all. Will I become aggressive? Yes when I am aggressive it is cognitive aggression and I am always in self control I do not let my emotions go crazy like the person that is standing in front of my yelling in my face and pushing me, and it is always to defend my self if I am in direct physical danger or a friend of mine is in danger. YES YES I WILL, I will be in full self control and calculatedly aggressive because I want the action or actions to stop immediately with as little fighting as possible how is that toxic?? I am just going to let someone beat me up without defending my self? Or let a man with no consent grope my best friend who is a girl in front of me and not do anything? No.... That is insanity! I will tell them to stop and warn them, but if they continue especially when it comes to my friend, you were warned and told to stop you are now just being a rapist knowingly in front of me when you were told to stop by me and by her. What I am just going to walk away find a security person come back and hope you haven't taken her somewhere or something along those lines....
Stoicism, or not displaying emotion: The definition of stoicism is a person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or complaining. One of the 5 words I used to describe my dad the other day in a askmen post about there fathers. I used stoic and I was PROUD to call him that. Because I am sorry but sometimes being stoic, is a hell of a lot harder than giving into the pain and hardship and showing what you are actually feeling and complaining about it. LIKE NO! Being stoic isn't toxic it is NEEDED sometimes. If you are stoic ALL THE TIME then yes that is toxic but not just for men.
Heterosexism, or discrimination against people who aren’t heterosexual: Ok that's not toxic masculinity that's just being a fucking idiot. who gives a fuck about someone else sexual orientation how does it affect you in any way shape or form.
self-sufficiency: This is a bad thing....?????? WHAT! HOW! LIKE WHAT!!!!! You need to be self sufficient to be a functioning member of society how is this toxic in anyway!
emotional insensitivity: This one personally I LOVE SO MUCH. Because if you are like me and you have a mental illness, do you know what psychologist ACTIVLY TELL YOU?? That's right be emotionally insensitive to people that aren't directly in need of your support i.e family/friends/significant others....You as a person have enough on your plate already yeah you can sympathize with people but why do you need to take on there problems on top of your own....that's just going to make you very very emotionally unstable because you are just taking on everyone else's problems......
I am so so so confused. I really am. OH and the best bit, the only psychological test for "toxic masculinity" are behind pay walls, the ones that are free are just very very silly questions that are definitive yes or no and give no scenario that the situation is being played out in.
And sweet jesus, you even bring up the topic of toxic femininity......you will be ripped to shreds by the harpies that have become known as the new generation of feminist's!
