In his essay, "On Women" Schopenhauer says the following passages,

"it is just because they are philistines that modern society, where they take the lead and set the tone, is in such a bad way"

"They are vain, I mean, of their personal beauty, and then of finery, show, and magnificence. That is just why they are so much in their element in society."

He also talks about how the influence of women has grown in the late 1600s and 1700s and compares this to the old age of the Italian and Spanish Renaissance, the East, and the ancient Greeks. Elaborating how the older societies didn't have this emphasis and reverence for "ladies".

How does this relate to our time today? Many indeed have said that the western world today is not necessarily just feminist but also 'feminine'. Especially the Anglo and Germanic nations, which is quite a contrast to the Greeks, Poles, Russians, Armenians, Georgians, and other such people of Christian background.
