I posted this on the sister site, and they referred me to post on this subreddit.

So I have a friends in my home city that I meet up with when I visit home for holidays. I have a friend that lives a city aways and picks me up, by my other friend (who used to live close) moved almost 50 miles away. His girlfriend got a full time job and they moved to an area where the commute is manageable for her, but he still drives 45 miles for work on weekdays.

I can take my city's train for 5 bucks and it takes me an hour to get there. , they pick me up and we all hang out in their city (the area is gorgeous and has new things for me to do).

My mother doesn't like the fact that I do the "leg work" and go to see my friend and that he should come down, pick me up, and take me home. I don't think that's fair for my friend to do that and I wouldn't expect him to do that if the train is accessible. In addition that I don't work long hours. Plus I am also being respectful of his girlfriend (she's wonderful).

If I was disabled or in a crap situation, that's one thing, but what do you all think?

Info: My friend and his girlfriend have been friends for years before meeting me. I met my guy friend in grad school and two years into the program, my friend and his girlfriend decided to date.
