I Relapsed After Two Months

Progress is so often two steps forward, one step back, over & over again. The one step back does suck ass, yes lol. God knows I sometimes fall like three steps back.

...But what I'm finally learning is how important it is to be kind to myself - whether I'm two steps forward or one step back or even three. Practicing being kind to myself, no matter what, has truly been a game changer. You're making progress, OP ❤️

You're still in a better place for even considering this a "relapse" -- the fact that you can recognize suboptimal patterns is a huge step forward that many of us never even achieve. Keep on keeping on!

You didn't mess up, you had a slight setback. Whatever it is you reset the clock and be proud of your original triumph of leaving!

Remember that abuse survivors usually go back or contact their abusers several times before finally breaking free.

I am also at that 2+ month mark. I think there’s something about this point… I’ve been struggling with my No Contact. I keep imagining that I’m going to bump into him and he’s going to admit how wrong he was to abuse me, recant all his abuse, and apologize sincerely.

And then I wake up and realize that Narcissists don’t play The Game so they can circle back and apologize. They don’t have that level of introspection. Theirs is a zero-sum game. You 👏 don’t 👏 win. Ever.

Dust yourself off. Fall back. Adjust fire. And learn from your mistake.

Falling off the wagon when levelling up is normal. What's important is getting back on the wagon. And you still have two whole months that you did well! Means you can do it again, and you can do it longer.

I’m sure you hear this a lot so I’m sorry if it’s annoying, but I really think a therapist would help you. Addiction is dangerous and I don’t want it to hurt you physically or mentally. Even talk to your doctor, as they have other resources and support groups they can connect you with.

I'm almost at one month. I relapsed multiple times, too. Don't beat yourself up about it. It's hard to change but possible. Sometimes I think I needed to relapse in order to finally make it.

It's okay Queen, no matter how many times you relapse or take a step back, just know we at FDS are here for you! Progress isn't about getting it right the first time, it's about growing and learning and finding the new you!
