It's becoming increasingly popular and acceptable for women to state they will "never date another man again" if their current heterosexual relationship ends. Usually with the logic that they've encountered so many abusive men that they have no interest in putting themselves in harm's way again to try and find someone. These statements will be not so subtly peppered with mentions of how "men ruined dating for themselves" (as if each individual man you meet is somehow responsible for the actions of those you chose to date), or how men are more likely to be shitty partners.

But if a man dares to make the same statement about women, he is automatically branded as a misogynist. Generalizing the entire female populace based on his limited anecdotal experiences. It's insane how "men" are the only group who have to accept bigotry like this. And make no mistake, generalizing all of mankind based on what your own partners did to you, is bigotry. It's sexism when a man does it with women, and it's sexism when it's vice-versa.

I'm not saying these people are horrible human beings for refusing to date. If you've been through so many abusive relationships that you can't bare to play the game anymore, then that's perfectly valid. But the moment you make it about "men", as a class, you become a bigot. Replace "man" with anything else.

"I'll never date a black person again, because my black exes were abusive to me. Black people ruined dating for themselves."

"I'll never date a bisexual person again, because my exes were bisexual, and they all abused me. Bisexuals need to get their shit together."

Stop being bigoted asshats. There's no justifying this. And this standard is clearly, not socially applied to any other class of people. If, and when it is, it's called out as bigotry. But sweeping generalizations towards men are just "the way it is". Fuck that.
