Tens of thousands of homeless men in Australia rendered invisible

A group of Australian researchers from the Swinburne University of Technology (Sydney Australia) and the University of Tasmania (Australia) have managed to fix the overwhelming issue of homeless men in Australia, by simply ignoring them.

“Those at risk of homelessness are more likely to be: female, Indigenous, living in a lone-person or lone-parent household, low income, unemployed or outside the labour force, in receipt of income support payments, and are more likely to identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, and report fair or poor health.”

Given men account for 58% of the homeless in Australia and 2 of 3 Australians living rough (ABS 2016), it hard to understand where these homeless men are coming from, when they are clearly not at risk of homelessness. Are they choosing to be homeless?

One commenter pointed out the obvious…… “Seems entirely incorrect to state that women are more at risk of homelessness than men? Certainly all the available data (and perhaps common sense) clearly show that there are many more homeless men than women in Australia (ABS, 2016) and likely anywhere else in the world. This fact should be clear to anyone regardless of how homelessness is defined (temporary, crowded, supported accommodation etc.). In fact if you look at the rate of ‘actual’ homelessness (ie. ‘persons living in improvised dwellings, tents or sleeping out’) then the rate of homelessness among men is more than twice that of women.” And noted that “It is extremely damaging and insulting to some of the most vulnerable people in Australia to pretend they do not exist.”

Like the tens of thousands of homeless men in Australia, this man was ignored as if his life and experience were invisible an worthless. Systemic misandry in Australian academic research.

That's lot of words to say that women are likely to be homeless. They keep on hiding the reality while making women to look victims.

75% of the registered homeless are men in the US, and then about 20% of the homeless are "rough sleepers" who don't even make it to a shelter to get registered who are essentially all men. That makes men about 95% of the homeless. Yet, the first category in the article of "who are in danger of homelessness" is "women".

There are 2000+ women-only homeless / crisis centers in the US - for that 5% who are women and exactly zero (0) for the 95% who are men.

So much about "caring" about homelessness.

Very disappointed that the government didn’t say they were invincible men. Would of been much cooler are nicer to hear :c
