Quick rundown of the case:

  • The perpetrator, Christopher Belter, sexually assaulted four underage girls between 2017 and 2018. He was also under 18 at the time.

  • Despite being sentenced as an adult, Judge Matthew J. Murphy issued a sentence of eight years of probation and ruled Belter must register as a sex offender.

  • His sentence included no prison time.

Obviously, this is a miscarriage of justice. Having to register as a sex offender and eight years of probation (during which breaking it will send him to prison for an extremely long sentence) are harsh punishments, but not nearly harsh enough.

Feminists are incredibly outraged over this. They should be. It reminds me of various other cases.

For instance, Erica DePalo, who was 30 at the time, raped a 15-year-old student of hers and received no prison time. She didn't even have to register as a sex offender.

Madeline Marx, at 24 years old, raped two 16-year-old boys in her care. She was also spared prison time and did not need to register as a sex offender.

Heidi Verrett, 34 at the time, raped three high school boys. She was spared prison time as she pleaded down to a misdemeanor. She also did not have to register as a sex offender.

Outrage happens when male perpetrators are treated how female perpetrators are routinely.
