From a young age, even in the community I grew up in, i saw the importance of fatherhood. The one thing in common with men and women when facing the trials of growing up, is that those who didn't have a father seemed to be in for a tough time. There were those who grew up with beta fathers, but they might as well shouldn't of even been there.

By meaning tough time, I mean getting involved with drugs, anti social behaviour, crime. There were some who did fine, but the absentee father was certainly an unnecessary obstacle for them to overcome.

Does anyone have personal stories, or one better links and sources that back this view up.

I am trying to do an essay on the matter and I want material, which the mainstream seems to reluctantly vaguely acknowledge.
