In the past 10-15 years, it seems that women have become increasingly and openly hostile and disdainful of men they see as beneath them in some way. Women seem to be very comfortable expressing this contempt in public settings and on social media in ways that did not seem to exist just a few years ago.

I don't think it's a stretch to say, saying anything openly anti-man on Twitter, instagram or TikTok is tolerated if not celebrated.

From the open mocking of short men (encouraging them to commit suicide) to the more recent “West Elm Caleb” trend on TikTok, to concepts like “Big Dick Energy” and excusing if not celebrating women like Cardi B, there seem to be no bounds as to how much vitriol can be directed at men in general, even up to and including trying to ruin a man’s livelihood with zero consequences.

From what I’ve observed personally and through observing friend’s experiences, there seems to be a trend in which men, especially unattractive men, are seen as fair game and easy targets for women to play out their revenge fantasies on men, especially when those men step “out of their lane” in some way.

Personally, I believe the rise of the “Karen” phenomenon may be somewhat related to this. That perhaps, we as a culture may be encouraging women to feel more entitled, angry and demanding than ever as some kind of payback for real or imagined historical wrongs, but the end result is a generation of angry and confrontational women that see fit to shit on men at every opportunity.

To begin the discussion I will cite some admittedly anecdote personal experiences that I’ve had in just the past couple of months as a man deemed unattractive by the majority of women:

  • A woman angrily screaming “WHAT? WHAT? HUH?!” when I merely met eyes with her, as if I had been cat calling her (she had taken off her jacket after twerking on her friend)
  • A woman completely and openly ignoring me while I was politely thanking her for a favor she did for a friend earlier. Like I didn’t even exist.
  • Another woman coming to order a drink next to me at a bar, then raising her hand in a “talk to the hand” manner , and then flipping me off when I was sitting at a bar with a (female) friend. I literally hadn’t said a word to this person. I had to stop the female friend from beating her ass.
  • A woman accusing me, in front of people, of trying to drug her drink. I was completely across the bar and she had left to go smoke and claimed her drink had been tampered with and then literally pointed at me.

In other cases, it was merely being taken advantage of since I probably look like a nerdy and naive guy (ie a “Mark”).

  • Meeting a girl I had met a week before for a drinks date, her bringing a friend, us coming back to my apartment and her friend suddenly revealing she was a “sex” worker and demanding money for her “time” and them stealing an expensive bottle of champagne from me and leaving.
  • Meeting a girl at a hotel bar, being drugged ,and waking up in a hotel room with all of my belongings gone (thanks Cardi B!).

Now, obviously some of this is took place in venues where alcohol was a factor, and some is simply criminal behavior. Still, I can’t help but think there is a toxic atmosphere and culture developing among women where the thinking is “It’s ok to do bad shit to men - especially creepy (ie ugly) men - or at the very least it’s not that bad, because - look at all the bad things men do to us!

As a man, have you experienced or observed anything similar in the past 10 years?

As a woman, do you feel that there is a climate of encouraging “payback” on men in general or that men are being

If you agree this is happening, where do you think this will lead, and what do you think can be done to change the trend?
