This is an interview with Dr. Naomi Murphy who has a long career working in the UK prison system with violent offenders. Her work has consistently found that violent men are typically coming from incredibly violent and unsafe backgrounds, and the maltreatment & abuses they face in their eary lives shapes their future behaviour. She also reports that underlying the hostility is deep rooted fear and anxiety, and that many men develop such behavioural or physical aggressiveness to try to protect themselves from future harm. She also touches about social expectations on boys to be 'tough' and 'not express vulnerability' as well as encouraging aggression in boys and how these impact men in seeking help.

I read part of that article once before. This time, seeing just the title, it occurred to me that powerless men are seen by everybody as lesser men. A woman can be powerless and still be considered a complete and healthy woman. A powerless man is esteemed by nobody.

-An observation on why a male would be much more motivated to seek power in some form. The alternate choice is social oblivion.
