This plot sounds a lot like Brian K. Vaughan's 2002 comic book Y The Last Man

" On July 17, 2002, all living mammals with a Y chromosome—including embryos and sperm—simultaneously die, with the exception of a young amateur escape artist named Yorick Brown and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. Many women die as a secondary effect of male deaths, such as plane crashes. Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse, and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of men, and the belief that, barring a rapid, major scientific breakthrough or other extraordinary event, humanity is doomed to extinction."

Based on the description this doesn’t sound as anti-male as much of the other world without men literature.

An interesting point is how female behavior would change if men weren’t around. If all the things men provide suddenly vanished, the remaining women would turn to looting and other crimes in an instant. There would be nothing utopian about a dysfunctional, poverty ridden, crime ridden society.

I may be wrong, so I apologize, but I think that the XY dichotomy is strictly a human chromosomal anomaly. Maybe other higher primates? I am rather certain that male/female differentiation in virtually all other mammals is not rooted in that chromosome arrangement.

Edit: I misremembered. Mammals have XY sex determining chromosomes, most other animals have ZW sex determining chromosomes.
