I recently went from a job that was moderate-high stress that required 15-20 hours of overtime per week to a low to no stress job that has all voluntary overtime. I took a paycut but my stress is lower than it has been in a year.
My work-life balance is great now ; I'm working out 5 days a week, cooking proper meals, doing yard work and other minor projects that I enjoy, and having sex more frequently.
There is a minor situation at work that I'd like some advice on though. I work in a "team" of 12-15 people, working with one or two different people each day. Some of the assignments keep you busy through the whole day, which I enjoy because the work day goes by a lot faster, while others require very little work and make the day drag. The majority of people are good to work with and pull their own weight/help out if someone gets overwhelmed.
There is one guy though that hardly works at all and loves to remind you that he is doing very little work. Nobody likes working with him, me included. I was teamed up with him one shift and I had a steady work load, which kept me busy through the day, while he had very little to do. He tries to give me orders but I have been ignoring him and doing my own thing.
The thing is I don't enjoy days where I have very little to do as I keep looking at my watch and time drags on but I don't like knowing that he thinks he is above me because he is getting payed to do very little.
How do you deal with lazy "teammates" at work?
