I think the article highlights the real problem why drafting women is getting resistance. Its not really that Republicans value women more or think men deserve to go off and die, the powers that be have phrased this as radical left agenda that is tied into a bunch of other ideology, and so therefore it must be stopped on that merit. And unfortunately it seems they've had to explain the difference between equity and equality so many times they can't tell the difference themselves anymore. I think if people want any chance of an equal draft passing, they have to take control of the narrative and properly explain why they want it (and that is actual equality, not equity) and that its not actually a left wing issue.

It shouldn't be an insurmountable goal, but since the Democrats don't actually want it either and are just blustering to their base, they'll start voting against it if Republicans start changing their minds.
