I can think of many reasons:

The lies of Feminism and other ideologies hitting the wall of reality as women get older
Lack of accountability for women is causing their lives to spiral out of control
Sexual harassment laws make it so men don't want to interact with women at work in a friendly manner
Dependency on the state surely leads to depression
Mobile society and lack of family connectedness - putting parents in elderly care, children in day care
Women live longer so more likely to be alone as they get older
Women love spending money on all kind of stupid crap, especially American women, so that hits their finances, which must be depressing
Majority of people are overweight, that's got to be depressing especially for women
Watching standard of living slowly spiral down the drain
USA probably has the most advertising for pharmaceutical products, other countries ban direct-to-consumer marketing for pharmaceuticals
Women are the primary consumers, and antidepressants are just one more thing on their list to consume
I've seen groups of women actively discussing and comparing antidepressant brands - herd mentality
Women insist on bringing unnecessary stress into their lives, e.g. having large weddings and making a big deal about holidays such as Valentine's day, Christmas, birthdays, and anniversaries
EDIT: Forgot one - high entitlement and expectations will inevitably lead to disappointment.

Women have been buying into a lie for the last 40 years, but then again so have men. The lie they buy into is Feminism, and the lie men buy into is Blue Pill and White Knighting.

The difference is in how we choose to deal with it. Men swallow TRP (whether they realize it or not), and choose to embark on a journey of introspection, self critique, and ultimately life improvement. Women choose to swallow pills. When it comes to personal happiness, men choose the path of work, because we've been working our whole lives, even if what we were working toward was the wrong goals. Women, especially feminine high SMV women, haven't had to work for shit since they started growing tits and their figures started to fill out, i.e., middle of high school. They've spent the better part of 2 decades having their pick of the male litter (i.e., being the "gatekeepers" to sex), having men dote all over them, constantly being told they're pretty, even able to keep beta orbiters to provide things they'd rather not buy or can't afford to buy for themselves, etc. And again, the idea that now (in their post-wall years) they're gonna have to bring something to the table other than ass and tits to attract a partner and/or achieve happiness, is a foreign idea to them. They realize they're not haaaaapy.

So let's just medicate. Just another example of women never taking responsibility or being accountable for their own situations, or even their own happiness. "It's not your fault, it's society's fault, honey..."

Disclaimer: I'm not saying everyone in the US is like this, or all people in non-american countries are not like this.

I think a huge part of why this a problem for women & men too is because of America's hyper-individualistic culture. Robert Putnam's book: Bowling Alone talks about the breakdown of community and public spaces. America in a lot of parts of the nation is largely a 'you're on your own culture.' Getting booted out of the house at 18 or 22, and not living with immediate family, and grandparents are largely American (I'm sure they're are exceptions, don't get me wrong) things. More traditional societies have stronger neighborhood, religious, and family ties. As for me, I was fortunate enough to have had strong and supportive kin groups around me my entire life. Though that's not the case for everyone.

America is only 5 percent of people but consumes 40 of ads.
My guess is that they depression is concerning the lack to meet these standards. We probably have the worst food environment in the world as well, so getting fat and ugly is the norm.

Here's the full(er) version of the article. It covers a broad range of topics (prevalence of antidepressant drugs in recent years, societal eras of depression/anxiety, DSM diagnoses, issues with prescribing antidepressants), and isn't too gender-focused. Here's the most gender-related passage:

Antidepressant SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) were first approved as treatment for clinical depression, and other uses were steadily added during the 1990s: indications came, one after the other, for obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, anxiety and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. The drugs were also used for paraphilias, sexual compulsions and body dysmorphic disorder. With each new utilization, the market got bigger, lines between distress and disease got blurrier, and the drugs began to be prescribed for problems beyond those indicated by the Food and Drug Administration. As a result, a good number of Americans are now taking SSRIs for non-FDA-approved uses, termed “off label” prescriptions. A 2006 study found that three quarters of people prescribed antidepressant drugs receive the medications for a reason not approved by the FDA.

Based on the information in this article, you'd be making a huge leap linking anything to gender here. It's an interesting read nonetheless.

Utah, the state i live in, has the highest antidepressant usage in the nation. I've read that religious areas tend to have higher usage in general.

I don't think this has anything to do with Red Pill. I think the 6% discrepancy between men and women comes from the fact that men are less likely to come forward and seek out help when they're depressed/suicidal because they're afraid of being seen as weak.
