So, first let's look at history. For the most of the history the things that parents had to do for the kids were to provide shelter, food, water, medicine, mandatory education(more recent) and whatever other basic needs, if said parents had the ability to do so. IMO if parent does all of these they did their duty and nobody should be bale to demand them to do more. That does not mean parent can not do more if they can, we are simply talking about what they MUST do(if they have ability) and what society should DEMAND from them. Based on this after divorce IMO child support should be 50% of minimum(in the area, country or state or city/village) required for the basic needs of a child. Even if one parent is rich, I do not think they owe some huge amounts of money because the other parent decided super-expensive school, swimming lessons, vacations and so on were something absolutely necessary. IMO it would be better if society forced the parent to pay the 50% of the minimum(unless they are too poor) and parent would decide what extra they wanted to give their kids...and IMO most would do their best and parents themselves would know best, and it's an extra money for something non-basic need anyway. Better than current system at least.
Since most of the parents paying child support are men, I think this matters to us.
