So a /r/feminism user has asked what book the should give their 14 year old sister in order to 'give them a taste' of the feminist ideologies.

I commented that it seems almost 'cultist' and 'indoctrinative' to be giving a 14 year old books about why they should be a feminist, the same way that giving a bible to a child is indoctrination- it isn't necessarily bad but it is forcing opinions onto someone who wouldn't otherwise have wanted them.

It seems odd that doing the same with say, Scientology, a largely reddi culled and refuted religion would lead only to the sister being in serious social doo-doo for forcing opinions into someone who was not seeking them. Instead of saying 'oh you had a problem? Feminism can help' she's instead gone for 'oh here's some solutions, pair them up with your problems'.

Now I don't mind so much that they wanted to give the literature and I said what I thought- it's wrong to give someone such opinion based literature at such a tender age for no reason other than to get them on board with the movement. Regardless of if it's Scientology, MRM, feminism, Christianity or any other opinion it shouldn't be forced onto someone like that. If they have a need for feminism they'll find it the same way I found the MRM instead of giving them feminism and them creating a need for it.

Sorry I'm so annoyed it's just stupid to ban someone for an opposing opinion like that.
