I was reluctant to answer a lot of questions regarding the handbook itself and the facility for fear of unseen ramifications with the court. Now that I am in the free and clear I have the handbook in hand and am prepared to give you the real ugly nitty gritty of this tangled web of bad statistics, anecdote, shaming and downright misandry.

I live in a part of California where any domestic violence call will result in the arrest and prosecution of the male party regardless of the facts surrounding the incident. As a result, I am in a domestic violence class to avoid harsh penalties. AMA. (self.MensRights)

It's well known here that any woman for any reason can call the police at any time and have her significant other arrested. Men who fight it (including several in my own class) never win,even when the alleged victim testifies on his behalf. Men who call the police for help.. Get arrested.

So now I'm 8 months into a 52 week DV class to avoid 2 years probation, 1 month in jail and a large fine. It used to be a 6 month class, but it was decided by a committee made up of dv profiteers including the owner of the facility I attend that it "wasn't working" so they doubled it. You know, because if something fails you should do it more.

The book we were given is full of 20+ year old statistics, blatant self-contradictions, flawed logic, bad science and straight up lies. Part of it eschews traditional gender roles, then embraces them in the instances where they demonize men. The instructors are all former hard drug-addicts and ex-cons, which is fine with me except that half of them are clearly burnt the fuck out. Some of them spent time in prison for severely injuring their significant other after systematically terrorizing and abusing them for years, then gladly tell us "I'm no different than you." That's just the tip of the massive glacier of dogshit.
