Damn, what a great article.

I was a little disappointed that the author didn't get stuck into the common idea that, before the 1950s, men worked outside the home and women worked inside the home. Sure, this was probably true for a small portion of the world's population that was rich enough, but for the vast majority of humankind in places where agrarian modes of production dominated, it was simply not true. Peasant societies were remarkably egalitarian, because no idle hands were countenanced and women worked the fields alongside men out of pure necessity.
