What most people remember Orwell best for is his imagery of "big brother", who's always watching you to see if you're doing something wrong. But Orwell seemed to be a lot more interested in the propensity of socialists to try to manipulate, redefine, and control language - their attempt to redefine concepts out of existence. Notice that feminists don't say, "Misandry isn't the proper term for that. The proper term is ______" Instead they insist that the concept itself is invalid, and that no word can describe it, because hatred of men (in any meaningful sense) just plain doesn't exist. Most people, when they use the term "Orwellian"', are referring to government surveillance, but I think Orwell tried to warn us a lot more about this sort of thing than overreaching government spies. You can see this all throughout "social justice" as they try to make more and more terms - rape, gender, he, she - completely meaningless. If you can't communicate, you can't communicate dissent.
