Today afternoon: took the car out for a trip to the market. At a turn, there was this somewhat shabbily dressed guy walking in the middle of the road not giving way to cars. Honked to make him move, his only response was to turn and wave cheerily at me and continue on his course. It was evident that he wasn't too mentally sound, so maneuvered the car around him and continued on my way.

A short while later, made my way to the local liquor store to pick up a few beers. Found the same guy there, having a rather voluble (and one-sided) conversation with the guys running the store. In spite of his rather shabby demeanor, turned out he was a well-educated chap fluent in English (remember, this is India). And all he could talk about was how his wife had made false DV complaints against him in multiple police stations, resulting in the police arresting him and putting him in Tihar jail (the central jail of Delhi, India's capital), and how it was only recently that a magistrate had let him out. Of course, the guys running the store (which caters mostly to uneducated lowly-paid laborers) didn't understand most of what he was saying (they understand only Hindi, the "official" language of India), with one chap surmising that domestic violence was probably another form of bank robbery.

As I mentioned in the first paragraph, the guy didn't seem mentally sound, and later it became obvious what really pushed him over the edge. And it was enabled by India's notoriously anti-male laws pushed through legislature over the course of the past few decades due to pressure by feminist groups. Turns out radical feminism isn't such a first-world problem after all.

EDIT: corrected typo.
