Humans certainly have less sexual dimorphism than other species, birds for example. But it does exist.

Also, the estimate of sexual dimorphism comparisons mostly involve bodyweight. This may be misleading, because women store more fat than non-human primates by a fair amount making the apparent dimorphism seem less than it actually is. There was an article recently that compared strength differences that found ~95% of women weren't as strong as the average man. I think that says a lot more about sexual dimorphism than the bodyweight.

Neoteny is an interesting concept, and I thought it was relevant to share the term with this subreddit. I remembered it the other day when having a discussion with a friend.

My point was that neoteny would have contributed to higher intelligence as well, since learning about the environment is distinctly a task that is most typical of juveniles.

So the question is, how does that fit in with women being the oldest teenager in the house?

*It is possible that it doesn't at all, and this pattern is due to some third cause.

*It is possible that brain development is stopped at an earlier stage in women due to neoteny.

*It is possible that neoteny worked in a third way such that it actually more descriptive of the brains of men, and thus more often engage in life long learning and women have less thus more similar to the earlier pre-human state (which would have known the environment more perfectly by adulthood, and not needed additional learning).

Before finding this article, I was talking to my friend saying that I suspected the third to actually be true. Though I am by no means saying I am certain of this. It is a simple hunch.
