Read through your post.

I have to commend you for your... Not sure what to call it. Personal responsibility? Accountability? Autonomy?

-Fresh wound and all, you are able to objectively look at the situation and that is amazingly commendable. It only gets easier with time (the emotional part of the equation).

I can't speak for him, nor am I looking to defend him, but if I were in his shoes, and all of the above happened between us, the "indirect contributions (through mom?)" would probably be my way of keeping it semi-professional.

Also, if I am reading you correctly, they are (his mother's) her grandkids. I'd think she has as much interest in their well-being as he does. I wouldn't take the middle-man thing as an insult or anything (from what I've read).

It gives me a little hope for humanity in the west that there are rational people like you. Being left sucks and I empathize with that, being without means sucks and I've also lived that life and empathize with that.

What anyone does is their own prerogative, but while reading I was mentally fist pumping your eschewing the "Sewing circle" suggestions.

I hope the world gets easier soon for you.
