When my father got the child support bill he started the road to losing all hope. Due to the nature of his work (construction seasonal and weather dependent) He started to fall behind. At first he was good about it. He would catch up as soon as he could. Then after a few employment disasters he started accruing back pay. He had to move into a very small one bedroom apartment and still had a hard time keeping up on bills. He resigned himself to a life of debt and start to give up taking less work and suing to lower payments. He know longer had the ambition or the drive to work 60 hours a week during the peek construction season. This is when he started to look at me not as his son but as an unfortunate debt hanging over his head. His children were the reason he was stuck eating cheap pasta most the week. Oh he tried to hide his feelings and managed to fool my other siblings. He however could not fool me. He slowly withdrew from our lives and I was left Fatherless. Child support stole from me a father I needed. I cannot defend him and how he ended up treating his children. I however can understand why it happened.

The law I propose is simple. Child support is not based on the total earnings of someone it is based on his 40 hour a week earnings. People will get to keep 100% of their overtime for themselves.

Sue the initial child support will be a bit smaller. What this law does however is encourages People to continue improving their lifestyle with hard work. But improving there life they will improve their childrens life as well. As is stand not there is no incentive for improving yourself. If you work hard you just and up paying more so why work hard. My Law bring back the incentive of hard work, it brings back the drive and ambition that so many seem to lose. It might even bring back HOPE.
