High school teacher receives one year sentence for sleeping with three students and having one student's baby

I have no legal training so I ask this question from a standpoint of pure ignorance. How can a plea deal reduce time so dramatically based on the admission of a crime and desire from at least one of the victims (and or his mother) to have her spend a longer time in prison?

Also, how does this case differ significantly from this one.

She had sex as a repeat offender (over a 5 year period) with 41 counts with 3 different individuals and was careless enought to get pregnant by a 16 year old.

I also know that there was recently a teacher (male) who only received a 30 day sentence for statutory rape of a (female) student.
