So my school was voted the worst in the country on student's rights. They've had a bad year overall actually (Google). How concerned should I be?

Very. All speech should be protected under the US First Amendment. It is YOUR RIGHT to disagree, to protest, to use politically incorrect language. Your school censors you, overriding YOUR constitutional right and making it against their 'rules' that you should dissent, debate, or disagree.

Start a free speech coalition. Copy the article and distribute it. Make sure the subject gets into your campus newspaper. Organize a discussion panel on your campus' policy versus citizen rights. Find out who drafted the policy and interview them for your campus radio station. Stand up for your rights, they are being taken away.

I'm not familiar with FIRE, so I have no idea what they consider to be freedom of speech and what they consider to be vile racism/religious intolerance.
