So how -- considering that recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that, on average, 48 percent of women do housework (as opposed to 20 percent of men), and 82 percent of women (as opposed to 65 percent of men) spend time each day on financial and other household management tasks -- does Slaughter expect a "men's movement" to come about?

I like the assumption that men can't be competent at running the dishwasher if women do it more often.

Flip those stats around and you have the basic division of labor when it comes to payed work. And yet one would suggest women are incompetent when it comes to careers based off those stats.

There is a "mens movement" of course - represented by the shrill misogynist rantings of those like Paul Elam or Warren Farrell. But that movement isn't about redefining manhood. It's about trying to cling to an age old definition of manhood as dominant, privileged and contemptuous of "the weaker sex". It's only exacerbating the problems that older men face about being displaced by women's progress. It's notable that most of the men flocking to this "movement" are middle aged and elderly.
