There are some obvious examples (Saudi Arabia), but in most cases I don't know enough about these cultures to make such a judgement, and it's nearly impossible to find unbiased deeply knowledgeable sources on the matter.

Here is a great example of the sort of thing you might not realize about foreign cultures. In many of these places everyone needs more rights.

There's also the issue of how the turn-around is handled. India is a great example of just how fast well-meaning attempts can turn south when both sides aren't considered with equal weight.

As a man in America, I face no hurdles in getting healthcare for all of my reproductive needs; there are no states that are closing down clinics that perform vasectomies or ultrasounds to find testicular cancer and I can get contraception from a corner drugstore or free at local health centers without having to worry about being over 18 or getting parental permission.

Women's healthcare, however, is still severely curtailed in this country both by private institutions and public laws. Reproductive health centers are under constant attack (sometimes literally, as is the cases of bombings and arson), health clinics are shut down by local and state governments, reduced access to contraceptives and the morning after pill, and abject ignorance of basic reproductive science are all preventing women in this country from having their healthcare needs met.

It's very easy to point a finger to Islamist cultures with their strict interpretations of Sharia making women's lives hell out of some sense of religious piety and moralizing, but we have that same problem here and until the dialog is about what's best for people's health and not about punishing women who get pregnant or who are sexually active, we need feminism and egalitarian movements.

In desperate need is places like the Middle East and Africa. But they also have a shitload of other social issues that need addressing just as badly, like maybe being more politically stable.

Places of serious issue, Saudi Arabia and the Congo for example, do not need women's rights, they need to be brought up to first world status. Women's rights will come with the change
