How many moms out there "have it all"?

If you can afford to stay at home, it must be really wonderful. Realistically though it will only be middle to upper class women who can do this. Most moms don't have it all by a long shot. My mom was a mother of four with a full time job and a husband. She struggled to get by and eventually her teeth rotted and her health went to shit because she worked so hard and still couldn't afford insurance. It was sad to watch.

I'm 26 and still childless. I work a minimum wage job but I am still doing better than my mother ever did. For one without kids I can afford dental care, and I can't tell you what a relief it is to get out of that kind of poverty. For me, financial independence is more important than having children. Having children when you don't have the money or time is nothing but a nightmare.

I don't look down at stay at home moms, or any kind of mom. I know motherhood to be very difficult, having helped my own mom raise my younger brothers. That's why I don't look down on people who avoid motherhood either. Above everything else, motherhood is more stable and supportive when it is chosen rather than forced.

I think its sad how many people look down on stay at home moms. People who look after other's children get congratulated for following their "noble calling", get told they deserve higher pay, etc. But god forbid you want to stay home to raise your own children! Suddenly you are lazy, entitled, a burden on your husband and society.

Personally, I think its impossible to have it all because when you are torn in that many different directions you can't be giving them all 100%. If you're cool giving 50% to work and 50% to family, or if you have to split for financial reasons, thats fine but let's not look down on the women who choose to dedicate 100% to having a healthy happy family. Thats just wrong.
