First, I don't think anyone here will argue that sexism against women doesn't exist, or that there don't exist men who genuinely resent women with a burning passion. There might be some arguments about prevalence and what constitutes sexism, but that's hardly unique to us.

You'll find many excellent rebuttals of the pay gap here. In summary, women tend to make choices such as delaying or interrupting their career to have kids and taking fewer high-paying technical jobs which account for this.

Boys and girls are going to play differently. Some of this stuff about dolls is society enforced (as much by women as by men), but there are psychological differences that make boys and girls behave differently on the whole.

This stuff about hitting on women being disrespectful is a clear double standard. When women do the same thing it's sexual empowerment and everybody cheers. You could argue for or against this sort of behavior, but let's not restrict the discussion to one gender.

Many of his arguments center around objectification of women. Okay, you don't have to like that. However, take a trip to the supermarket and look at all the buff shirtless men on the covers of the shitty magazines next to the checkout aisle. Then consider the portrayal of rich men as more desirable in popular culture. Shit cuts both ways.

Try the reverse bechdel test. In how many movies, shows, etc. do you see men talk about their feelings to each other? The idea that men have to be stoic is similarly damaging.

Men who are raped report it far less often than women who are raped, and rape of men (once you take prison into account and throw out the legal definitions requiring every rapist to have a penis) is way more common than you think.

Lets look at rape of men in fiction. When another man does it (usually in prison), it's frequently used as a 'worthy punishment'. When a woman does it it's a fucking joke and the guy frequently apologizes to his girlfriend for it.

"The role of men in this conversation": Shut up, admit it's your fault. Your problems are inconsequential or imaginary.

In a society that protects victims as much as ours, a monopoly on victimhood is empowering to an extent that it can be used to victimize others, as is seen in false rape accusation, false domestic abuse accusations, legal policies that assume the woman to be the victim in cases of domestic abuse (the majority of abuse is mutual, and non mutual abuse is committed by women as often as men), ridiculous alimony laws that don't allow you to reduce payments if you get laid off, the ability of women to simply give away a baby they don't want with no financial responsibility, frequent unfair rulings in divorce and child custody cases, affirmative action laws and hiring quotas, men getting much higher criminal sentences for the same crimes, preferential treatment of women in homeless shelters, domestic abuse shelters, government funded medical research, the treatment of every man as a potential pedophile, and more.

So in summary, Chuck Wendig has a few good points but is grossly uninformed, uninsightful and is perpetuating the very stereotypes he wants to deal with by telling men that they're not allowed to have feelings.

The role of men in this conversation is definitely not to be a bunch of pouty shouty poo-poo faces who start yelling about how they’re oppressed too and something-something our-poor-penises. But you can swing too far the other way, too — the role of men in this conversation is also not to be the swooping swinging heroes who need to jump into the fray and save the Poor Widdle Women. Women are not our damsels in distress. We are not rescuing them from the onrushing train of sexism and misogyny (I’LL SAVE YOU FROM THE ANGRY OLD SCI-FI WRITER, LITTLE NELL). Our job is to facilitate the conversation and to foster a healthy, safe, kind environment. Our job is to signal boost and to cheerlead awesome women and, ultimately, to not be dicks about any of it. Can we just say that last part again? DON’T BE A DICK KAY? Kay.

Basically a rehashing of "Shut the fuck up and put women's interest before your own."

Yeah let me get right on that. /s

Last time I checked women were fully capable human beings able to advocate for themselves.
