We live in the state of Wisconsin. I know nothing about divorce as I am not and have never been married. Over the past weekend very bad things happened that I feared would occur in my friend's marriage. He normalizes the doings of his marriage so he can adjust for the sake of his child. I'm extremely concerned at this point as he is allowing her to have control of his future because she preys on his fear of losing his son.

How can it possibly play out for child custody if he initiates the divorce? He definitely wants one, but he wants his wife to initiate it as he believes it will make for a less messy divorce and easier custody arrangements that will allow him to stay in his son's life.
