To be serious though if you consider writing a form of art you will see the occasional genius woman's work. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a pretty amazing read to be honest. Also people did try to shit on the book simply because the author was a female and refused to read it because nothing good would ever come a woman. That being said the book still did come out and get published. If a woman does truly make an outstanding work of art it will get noticed. It just doesn't happen that often in history.

honestly this discussion is going to boil down to an argument over the definition of "famous" and "art". you've already tried to skew the argument by eliminating certain types of art from being counted (no twilight? no 50 shades of grey? why do you not consider that art? many people do).

I'm also betting you don't really know much about art history and probably don't really know much about what makes an artist good or not. sounds to me like you just want to hate on women.

tl;dr: OP probably doesn't know shit about art, art history, or what makes a good artist and is selectively choosing his definitions of "famous" and "art" in order to construct a straw man argument against women.

Otoh, there have been Frida Kahlo and the like, but I don't know what makes a modern artist great. Modern art is just a bullshit dance to get rich off the rich to me.

On average, man and women have almost equal capabilities. However, statistics is a bitch: with the same average, men have a much broader range of performance, both ways. There are a lot more retarded (and all around stupid) guys, but on the other hand quite a lot more geniuses too.

Part of the whole reproducing strategy: most women will have two children, but most men won't. Historically they either had less then two, even none, or won the jackpot and had plenty. So it pays for the genes to take risks.

Honestly one of the biggest reasons is that in the past families wouldn't bother nurturing their daughter's art to the point of finding them apprenticeships for art and music. That's why most works of art that women create are novels and poems, cause you can get pretty good at that by reading and writing. Low cost materials and shit. That being said, Emily Dickinson sucks ass.
