Well, in eastern cultures it's the duty of the first born son to look after his parents, because patriarchy. But the real reason is because men were the only ones who could guarantee a standard of living.

Jesus, they look like they're on their way to being mummified.

That poor person looks like they need serious medical attention.

Maybe I'm just overreacting, but if I saw that in real life, I'd be very concerned for their well being.
